Islamabad Security Transportation & Executive protection

According to the OSAC (U.S. State Department) 2016 Crime & Safety Report the Crime Rate in Islamabad is rated as MEDIUM. Threats to international travelers include gender and politically based violence and kidnapping, sexual assault, & civil unrest. Low profile crime such as ‘pan-handling’ at major intersections do occur, but statistics suggest that this is no more than in any other large city in the world.

International foreigners may be targeted due to anti U.S./Western sentiments, which can quickly manifest into large-scale demonstrations and protests which are vigorously dealt with by the local Police. It is worth avoiding certain areas during Friday prayers.

The terrorist threat remains at an increased level with terrorist groups maintaining the ability and willingness to launch attacks without warning.

Road conditions in Islamabad are generally considered as good with much investment made in the highways system over the past decade. The roadways on the outskirts of Islamabad, however can be demanding and present challenging driving conditions with many roads turning to smaller, unlit mud tracks with little notice.

Driving standards are slightly below western standards which often lead to road traffic accidents and incidents. These incidents tend to attract large crowds of pedestrians and other road users, which in turn can lead to threatening behavior towards westerners and opportunity for criminal activity.

Islamabad City Area - Security Recommendations

Being in the wrong area at the wrong time could potentially lead to an unwanted situation and falling victim to a serious crime or incident.

In areas outside the city area where the government does not have a strong presence, terrorist and criminal groups have more opportunity to rob and kidnap travelers.

Islamabad Location Overview

Due to the extensive demand, but limited supply of armored vehicles, coupled with strict laws surrounding them within Pakistan, it is normally necessary to have at least 10-14 days advance notice to secure these vehicles.
